Welcome to StS ISONOR, Ingvill!
Who are you?
My name is Ingvill McGillivray-Birnie, I am 46 years old, and I am employed at StS ISONOR as the Head of HSE, Risk, Quality, and Sustainability. Before I came here, I worked for companies such as Saipem, Maersk (Noble), and TechnipFMC.
I am a licensed nurse, but I have studied and worked with HSE management and am currently pursuing an executive master's degree in risk management and safety leadership.
What do you work with? What are the most important tasks, what is exciting about your job?
I work with HSE, Risk, Quality, and Sustainability, and one of my tasks is to contribute to developing and ensuring a safe and systematic work environment.
This includes implementing and following up on procedures and routines, risk assessments, training, audits, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
What motivates me most about this job is the opportunity to make a tangible difference – both for the safety and well-being of individuals in the workplace and for the company's development and professionalism. I am particularly focused on leading by example.
During my application process for the position, I noticed StS ISONOR's slogan: "It relies on you." It immediately resonated with me because it summarizes the essence of HSE work: HSE concerns everyone. It must be anchored in the management, but it is equally a responsibility that lies with each individual employee.
Personally, I am committed to leading by example. I believe that credibility and trust are built through action, and that a good and safe work environment is created in collaboration, with openness, respect, and continuous improvement as core values.
What project are you working on now and how is it going?
As a new employee at StS ISONOR, my current main priority is to get well acquainted with the organization, the employees, and the established systems and routines.
I emphasize creating good relationships and gaining a thorough understanding of the company's culture, work processes, and potential for improvement.
In this phase, I also want to see the routines with "fresh eyes" and contribute with suggestions for possible efficiency measures and improvements where appropriate.
My approach is based on the principles of continuous improvement – it's not necessarily about making big changes, but about finding small adjustments that over time have a significant impact.
What do you dream about?
Although I am a nurse, a profession I have great respect for, I have a strong commitment to HSE and quality, and it is within this area that I have chosen to build my career.
I have mainly worked operationally with HSEQ work, but my long-term ambition is to contribute at a more strategic level.
I want to be part of the long-term work of designing, further developing, and anchoring good HSEQ strategies. At the same time, it is important for me to maintain the close, human perspective – after all, it is about people.
I hope to be able to combine experience from operational work with strategic thinking and contribute to StS ISONOR maintaining and further developing its systematic and solid HSE work.
On a personal level, I am a single mother of three wonderful children, and one of my biggest dreams is to give them a safe, valuable, and meaningful upbringing.
I want to be a clear role model for them – one who shows that it is possible to combine responsibility, determination, and care, even when life presents challenges. Balancing family life and career is not always easy, but that is precisely what makes it meaningful.
